Polymers Flashcards
What are the three classes of compounds in food?
Proteins
Fats
Carbohydrates
What are the first 6 alkanes and their formulas?
Methane CH4 Ethane C2H6 Propane C3H8 Butane C4H10 Pentane C5H12 Hexane C6H14
What are the first two alkanes and their formulas?
Ethene C2H4
Propene C3H6
What is a biofuel?
A fuel derived immediately from living matter
What is a biological catalyst?
Enzymes (soluble protein molecules) that can speed up reactions in cells
What are neutralization reactions?
Neutralization reactions occur when an acid and a base react to for water and salt.
What is the Bromine test?
Bromine can be added to an alkane and it will turn red whereas when added to a alkene it will remain colourless
What are the steps to finding an empirical formula?
Write down the elements
Write down the mass of each
Workout how much mole (m/Mr)
Divide by the smallest mole
With makes up the moles pyramid?
Top= mass in question
Bottom left= number of moles
Bottom right= atomic mass
How do you find how many molecules of a substance there is?
Mass x 6.02 x 10^23
n x Na = number of particles
How do you find the number of mole?
Mass/ molar mass
What is the stoichiometry process?
Write a balanced equation with mole ratios underneath
Write down known mole
Calculate unknown mole
Calculate mass of unknown
