- Gained lots of support especially from the working class. Many of which were only now being given the right to vote
- Campaigned for reforms in housing and health after the war
- Developed policies to deal with the post-war problems such as minimum wage and control of industries

- Lost support because their actions during the war pretty much directly contracted the values they were supposed to hold
- The war led to a split in the liberals because of rivalry between the PM during the war, Asquith and his replacement in 1916 Lloyd
- The election that followed the end of the war marked the end of the liberals as a powerful united party
- By the 1920s the Liberal party had ceased to be a effective political force

Conservatives
A
- They gained support - especially from the middle and upper class citizens who had fears of a communist uprising
- They were able to use new methods like cinema to put their ideas across
- Benefitted from being viewed as the party of law and order, especially in the aftermaths of the George Square riots
