Why was rationing introduced
A
- Soldiers took priority therefore there was less food on the Home Front
- Health was being affected by lack of food/malnutrition
- Some people were starving
- Farm production was affected by recruitment of labourers
- U-boats sank many supply ships which reduced the amount of food available
- Vital war workers needed to be fed adequately to produce weapons

A
- Farmers were paid extra to grow wheat and potatoes
- Allotments started in towns
- People urged to dig up lawns and grow veg
- Women’s land army started to grow more food
- Substitute food- margarine instead of butter
- Rationing introduced
