Point of care testing and chest x-rays Flashcards
POC tests for acute care settings
12 lead blood glucose FWT blood gas/lactate troponin/CK/cardiac markers INR electrolytes/Hb
Paramedic blood gas analysis
used by helicopter Hb - blood transfusion Co2 - ventilation lactate - shock treatment K - lower and raise levels
x-rays are
when you shine a beam of xray at a person and put a film on the other side of them the shadow is produced of the inside of their body
Steps of examining chest xrays
- check quality of film
- check the heart
- check the costophrenic angles
- check the hilar region
- check the lung fields
- quality of film
determine if film is PA or AP - through the front
under full inspiration? 10 posterior ribs should be visible
over or under penetrated - under penetrated will not see thoracic vertebrae
check for rotation
right and left sides
- check the heart
size
shape
silouette margins should be sharp
diameter
- check the costophrenic angles
margins should be sharp
- check the hilar region
the hilar - the large blood vessels going to and from the lung at the root of each lung where it meets the heart
check for size and shape of aorta, nodes, enlarged vessels
- check the lung fields
infiltrates increased interstitial markings masses absence of normal margin air bronchograms increased vascularity
