- beginning: start with a hook of common association
- middle:
- introduce the title and the author of the piece
- connect back to your hook
- you can add a brief summary here if you want, but it is not needed
- thesis:
- the essential element of the intro
- you can identify the techniques you plan to address, but you MUST identify the poet’s purpose (your warrants)
- the techniques (your claims) you identify will be your body paragraphs
