What is a pocket notebook used for?
The purpose of reporting in a pocket notebook is to refresh your memory when required to give evidence in court. That’s why it’s essential that you keep a written record of incidents to which police have been called and include any actions taken. If you don’t make notes, a Court may ask you why.
What does the acronym ‘no ELBOWS’ mean in regards to pocket book rules?
o E = no Erasures
o L = no Leaves torn out
o B = no Blank spaces
o O = no Overwriting
o W = no Writing between the lines
o S = Statements in direct speech
What does your pocketbook signature consist of?
First name, Surname, Rank, BCU number, BCU Code.
What is written in CAPITALS in a pocket book?
Surnames, place names and dates are written in capital.
What is recorded within the pocket notebook?
o Verbal warnings
o Information/Intelligence
o Property
o Suspected/wanted/missing person details and suspected stolen motor vehicles
o Computer PNC checks
o CRIS details
o Any other notes relating to your duty.
