What are the 6 rules when recording evidence?

A

1 The person taking the report should report it on CRIS as soon as possible.
2 If in doubt, record the crime as the victim tells it - unless there is credible evidence that a crime did not occur.
3 Record the crime asap following contact from the victim/representative.
4 Always record the reported crime/s before going off duty.
5 The 24 hour rule is ONLY to be breached in exceptional circumstances.
6 If you are in any doubt check the MPS guidance for crime recording on the intranet.

What types of crime MUST be recorded as reported by the victim, at the earliest opportunity?

Rape and sexual offences.

What should be considered when deciding whether to report a crime?

A

The test should be applied as to whether on the balance f probabilities it is more likely then not the result of a criminal act.
