What notification will you get that EP brake has failed to release on a bogie?
Brakes on illuminated
Local fault - brake bogie 1 or 2
Fault location - unit 1or 2
How do you isolate a bogie when brakes won’t release?
TC, PA, RTA, full cab unattended
Locate faulty bogie via fault panels in each cab of affected unit
Remove cover of brake module and turn Bogie IC (lower cock)
Book TMM, cancel RTA
Operate as per isolated bogies procedure
What indication will you get if a bogie has been isolated?
Brakes Cut Out Bogie 1or 2
Local fault - brake bogie 1 or 2
Fault location - unit 1 or 2
What indication will you get if park brake has failed to release?
Light on rotary switch will remain illuminated regardless of position
Retardation
Smoke
What should you do if park brake fails to release?
Operate rotary switch several times
Observe Cab/Train Manned CB set
Attempt to Power train against brakes. If you can Detrain pass and shunt to nearest siding
If you can’t / RTA and locate air leak. If no air leaks, TMM, rescue
What do you do if park brakes won’t release and you have located a MR air leak?
Manually release park brake:
Turn bogie IC on brake module
Unlock and remove locking pin from park brake manual release device
Pull manual release device until tension releases
Replace lock
Turn bogie IC back
TMM
Once you have manually released park brake what will happen next time park brakes are applied?
They will apply again
You would have to leave the bogie isolated and run as per bogies isolated to avoid them coming back on
What is MR pressure?
850-1000
What indication do you get if MR is getting low?
At what pressure do you get alerted?
Uncouple light will flash RED if MR drops below 750kPa
What should you do if MR drops low but remains above 600kPa?
Monitor and book
What pressure will MR cause safety loop to open
When it drops below 600kPa
What do you do if you have a air suspension rupture causing MR to drop below 600 and safety loop opens?
Turn air suspension IC in brake module.
Then do other bogie. You have to do both so car remains level
What is the speed restriction on Siemens with a deflated air bag?
80 kmh
How would you know the secondary suspension (spring inside airbag) is defective?
Train on level ground
Isolate/deflate airbags
Inspect car for a lean to one side
How do you recognise defective dampers?
Dripping with oil
Loose screw connections between damper and bogie or car
TMM
