Pneumatic Faults Flashcards
What does the compressor gov do?
Monitors MR pressure and maintains it between 585 and 725
What happens when you isolate the compressor gov with the cock?
All the compressors will run continuously
When the comp gov has been electrically isolated what happens?
The compressor gov will be turned off for that tank but the compressor will still work because another governor will take over
How do you identify a comp gov defect?
The MR needle will fall below 580 before the compressors start up
How do you fix a comp gov defect?
Need to identify individual comp gov settings. Do it by tripping the CB and watching the duplex gauge to see if it now raises to 585-725. Repeat in other motors until defective gov is found
Can air compressors run continuously if required?
Yes
At minimum how much do you need in the BP to remain in service?
425
How do you deal with compressors running continuously?
If time permits
Trip comp gov CB and reinstate one at a time until you find the one that makes the compressors stop
What else is affected when you trip a comp gov CB?
Trainlined park brakes on off won’t work
Local will

If MR pipe is defective in the leading motor, what position of the brake controller is available?
Only the emy position
If MR pipe is defective in the leading motor, do you need a C/E?
Yes otherwise declare disabled
If MR pipe is defective in the leading motor, what speed do you do and why?
Max 15 because your brakes are not fully operational
If MR pipe is defective in the trailing motor or any trailer car, what speed do you do and why?
Half track speed to max of 30 because your air suspension is deflated
What do you do if you have a ruptured MR tank
Close the MR delivery iso cocks
Place comp contractor iso switch to off
Trip Comp gov circuit breaker
