Electrical Faults Flashcards
What does the local fault light indicate?
Overload has tripped on a motor car
What does the line switch fault light indicate?
A fault within power supply to traction motor. A line breaker has failed to close on a motor car
What does rheo brake fault light indicate?
Rheo brake has failed to set up correctly on a motor car
How do you reset the rheo brake fault
Press traction equip reset button. If light is still on, toggle switch instead
What does a steady air con light indicate?
One air con has failed on one car
What does a flashing air con light mean?
At least one car has two air cons out
Where is no. 1 air con light?
Drivers cab roof
Why does a wheel slip light illuminated mean while stationary?
Fault with the wheel slip unit and it’s associated equipment
What does a wheel slip light in motion mean?
There’s a difference in speed of more than 15km between axles on one m or t car while powering or braking
What else is connected to the this car light?
Local park brakes
The control circuit is how many volts?
110vdc
What does the control circuit operate? (6) MRTESC
Master controller and reverser
Traction equip reset button
Remote Panto raise and lower
Electric brake demand circuit
Speedo
Control gov
If the control circuit breaker trips what happens?
Master controller is inoperative and no train lined signals can be sent to traction equip. Therefore you cannot drive the train from that motor
What do you do if the control CB trips after pushing Panto raise button?
You have to raise all the pantos locally on each motor
TMM
What do you do if the control CB trips after pushing remote Panto lower button?
Reset CB
Electrically isolate the Panto EP switch
Press remote Panto lower
If the CB still trips Cut Panto back in and repeat above steps on each m car
Can a train remain in service if pantos cannot be electrically lowered remotely?
No
What do you do if the control CB trips after pushing traction equip reset button?
Find the motor with this car light
Place to all out
TMM
What does it mean if the control CB trips before you have even touched anything?
There is a short circuit between the control CB and the reverser
What does it mean if the control CB trips with reverser in F, N, R and brake 1-7
Fault could be in the train cable or rheo brake control equip
If the fault was with the rheo brake how would you fix it?
Rheo brake iso switch to isolate
Try to reset the CB
If that doesn’t work, rheo back to normal and trip EP circuit breaker
Try to rest the CB
What do you do if the control CB trips while the master controller is open?
Determine which power notch is causing it to trip and drive in anything but that. If that doesn’t work out traction motors to all out if that doesn’t work do it in the leading centre motor if that doesn’t work divide and attach non electrically
What does the train cable carry and what is the connection?
110v and is connected between the centre motors by spring loaded contacts on the coupler
What is connected to the Aux control circuit breaker? BADSCAS
Bell
Aux start
Door buttons
Saloon lights on off
Couple and uncouple
Air con
Self centering device
If you loose an MA what happens? (4)
Half saloon lighting in each car
Half air con in each car
Half cab lighting and heating
Rheo on the car with the MA out will be inoperative
How do you know which MA is inoperative?
Air con fault light in cab roof
How many MAs do you need for full lighting?
4/all
How many DC supply circuit breakers do you need set?
At least 1 and the train must be removed from service
0 CB means train is disabled
