Brake Component Defects Flashcards
When is the charging valve open and closed?
Open all the time
Closed when in Emy
Interruption of power to the lock out magnet valve can be caused by…?
EP circuit breaker being tripped
Loss of overhead
What happens if the lock out magnet valve is defective in the closed position?
No air brake
What happens if the lock out magnet valve is defective in the open position?
Simultaneous air, EP and Rheo
If the lock out magnet valve is defective in the closed position, what do you do?
Operate on EP Rheo at max 15 to the next station detrain and shunt. It can’t remain in service
What controls the operation of the emy application valve?
Hand and foot pilot valves
What do you loose when you turn the red EC cock?
Trip valve
Emy application valve
CG
Hand pilot
Anti neutralisation device
VAV
What does the release prevention valve do?
Prevents the air brake from realising when the brake controller is in any position other than release
If you have a defective release prevention valve what brakes do you use instead?
EP Rheo
If the brake controller handle is moving towards the release position involuntarily during EP braking what do you do?
Isolate EP and drive on air
When do the trainlined SPB automatically apply?
Reverser to off
Under 8km for 60 sec
Reverser to N for 60 sec
What does the charging valve do?
Allows MR air to charge the BP
If the BP won’t charge what cock should you check?
MR to brake controller
