Brake Pipe Defects Flashcards
What is the first thing you check when you lose BP pressure?
Check you haven’t derailed
What can cause a loss in BP pressure?
Operation of safety equipment (trip hand foot)
Involuntary activation of equipment (back tripping)
Failure of equipment
You start loosing BP pressure and you can hear the air from under the lead. What do you do?
Into emy
Back to run and release
If it charges, the lead trip was activated
What do you do if you back trip?
Into emy BP 0
Run and release
BP should charge MR should recover
Find the affected trip and raise or isolate as required
What speed do you do if you have a ruptured brake pipe?
15km
If you have a ruptured BP when do you need a CE?
If the rupture is on cars 1236
Do you need a CE if the BP rupture is on cars 4,5?
You don’t have to have one you can deal with it alone
If a CE is unavailable for cars 4,5 what must you isolate and what brake are you using?
Isolate MR to 7 step on the defective cars and run on the EP brake
If you have a BP defect that does not affect the BP continuity, what do you isolate?
MR to 7 step to prevent the EP brake from operating
How do you know if you back tripped?
You’ll loose BP pressure but won’t hear any air and BP will recover after going into emy and back to run and release
