If social groups were presented unfairly, we wouldn’t continue to use the media products. If we didn’t want it we wouldn’t buy it, the media does present fairly.
Williams - Pluralism
Journalists are vital to a democratic society, they provide us with info required to participate in political and cultural life.
Free press is vital for democracy because censorship would lead to a biased, uncritical view of politicians and policies. Newspapers are traditionally conservative but now criticise conservative policies when necessary, to help the public get a true view of politicians. Eg, Trump making inappropriate comments.
Halloran - Pluralism
Audiences are able to manipulate the media, as they have plural views of society. (Not just one, so not biased).
Curran and Gurevitch - Pluralism
Audiences choice - Audiences are therefore capable of confirming and accepting these representations or rejecting them.
