Acute viral bronchitis- Eti
Inflammatory condition involving tracheobronchial tree
Acute viral bronchitis- Sx
- Cough lasting 3+ weeks, fever, constitutional sx
- Rhonchi clears with cough
- Normal x-ray findings
Acute viral bronchitis- Tx
- IV fluids, antipyretics, cough suppressants
- Quit smoking
Anaerobic pneumonia- Eti
- Due to aspiration, poor dentition, periodontal disease- aspiration,
- Mutiple anaerobes: prevotella melaninogenica, peptostreptococcus
Anaerobic pneumonia- sx
- Insidious, necrotizing pneumonia
- Foul smelling expectorant
- Constitutional sx
Anaerobic pneumonia- Dx
- Culture not useful unless thoracentesis
- CXR- thick walled cavity surrounded by consolidation, cavitation
Anaerobic pneumonia- Tx
- Clindamycin
- Surgery to drain
Viral pneumonia- Eti

Viral pneumonia- Sx
- Severe dyspnea,
- Retrosternal chest pain
- Little sputum, mild hemoptysis
- Rales, rhonchi, wheezes and prolonged expiratory phase

- Rapid antigen test
- Shell viral culture
- CXR- variable: local to diffuse
Viral pneumonia- Tx
Antiviral influenza agents- if taken within 36-48 hrs
- Supportive tx
Typical bacterial pneumonia- Eti
Stept. pneumonia, Staph. aureus, H. influenza, Klebsiella
Typical bacterial pneumonia- Sx
- Bronchial breath sounds, inspiratory crackles, dullness to percussion
- Fever, hypothermia, tachypnea
Typical bacterial pneumonia- CXR
- parenchymal opacity, lobular or patchy clearing of opacities
Typical bacterial pneumonia- Dx
CXR, sputum culture, CURB 65 criteria
