When should you start Platform Departure Sequence?
15 seconds prior to scheduled departure time.
How will station staff stop or hold a train?
STOP hand signal
They will advise driver of delay
Give Alright hand signal when safe to depart train.
(check for Proceed Aspect)
When can Driver re-release doors for passengers?
Never …
Unless dangerous or emergency situation
or
Whistle on the train is defective
What should the Driver do while stationary at a platform?
Ensure train brake is in the APPLIED position.
Only release when train is safe to depart
What is a SPOT 9?
Procedure when Driver has to leave the cab to view the train because of defective SPOT Infrastructure
What is the process to perform a SPOT 9?

Move to a location on the platform to view all doors
Close doors - from nearest cab

What do you do if you Stop Short of a Platform (6) ?
Don’t release doors - until all on p/form
Advise passengers via PA
Ensure passengers clear prior to moving
Sound a long whistle
Move train to stopping mark
Report the event to TC and fill in an Incident Report
What do you do if you BELIEVE you will Overshoot a Platform (Aborted Stop) (6)?
Place brake into full service (normal)
Close to end of platform determine if first saloon door will be at platform
If overshoot imminent, release brake at a speed that will not bring the train to a stand
PA announcement - train unable to stop
Proceed to next station and stop - regardless of timetable
Report to TC and submit incident report
What do you do if you DO OVERSHOOT a Platform (7)?
Don’t release doors
PA announcement - stand clear of doors
Confirm no passengers attempting to board
Sound long whistle
Proceed to next station and stop - regardless of working timetable

If you believe you will Overshoot a platform and there is unprotected level crossing or Signal at Stop What do you do?
Apply Emergency Brake

OJT can stand in bulkhead door and control passengers.

Continue to next station regardless of working timetable

When is it OK to use Emergency Brake?

Signal at Danger at departure end of platform
When there is unprotected level crossing at departure end of platform.
Place brake to EMERGENCY until train brought to stand
Sound series of emergency whistles and switch headlights between HIGH and LOW beam.
What happens when Driver makes Unscheduled Station Stop?
- PA announcement - inform of resumption of express conditions.
If fail to make PA announcement, must stop at next station and then make announcement.
Report to TC and do TDIR
