16
Q

What Suspension Systems does each train have?

A

Airbags - Comeng, Siemens, HCMT

Spring - XTrapolis

17
Q

How does the Spring Park Brake work?

A

Mechanical (spring) force

Stops train rolling away

Pneumatic to Release

(Applies with Spring - Releases with Air)

18
Q

How do Train Whistles work?

A

All EMUs have pneumatic whistle

They use compressed air

Used to warn people and for Drivers to Communicate

19
Q

How does each trains’ Pantograph raise?

A

Comeng, HCMT - Pneumatic
XTrap, Siemens - Electric

Comeng Pantographs can be raised with compressed air from
Main reservoir
Storage reservoir
Emergency 12V Battery Compressor

20
Q

What is the Pipe that connects all of the Reservoirs?

A

Main Reservoir Pipe

21
Q

What Train Equipment employs Pneumatic Systems (7)?

A

Friction Braking Systems

Air suspension systems (C S H)

Sanding Equipment (S H)

Whistles

Pantographs (C H)

Saloon doors (C)

Spring Brake Systems

22
Q

What are the Primary Affects of Electric Shock (6)?

A

Shock

Burns

Unconsciousness

Respiration Stops

Reduction of Blood Circulation

Death

23
Q

What do you do if you find an electric shock victim?

A

Make sure you are safe

Make sure others are safe

Isolate the source

24
Q

What are the 2 types of Current Flow?

A

DC - Direct Current

AC - Alternating Current

25
What do Electrical Switches do?
Turn current/equipment on/off Circuit open = OFF Circuit closed = ON
26
What do we need to know about Circuit Protection (3)?
Circuit Breakers - Protect circuits - Not to be used as switches - Must check fault before re-setting
27
What are the 3 things that 15,000V DC go to?
Traction Motors Motor Alternator Compressor
28
What is Electro Dynamic (Rheostatic) Braking?
Using traction Motors as a generator to provide mechanical resistance onto rotating axle of car. Uses magnetic field.
29
What does the compressor governor do?
Monitors the air pressure in reservoir system to maintain consistent level of pressure
30
What do the safety valves do?
Prevent main reservoir from being overcharged should air compressor fail to stop
