What do you have to do when handing over a train? (6)
Stop at correct platform position
Communicate with relieving driver
Observe Metro ID
Advise condition if train and any defects
Inform them of any Safety Critical Documentation
If Relief Driver not there call DAO
What do you have to do when you are Relieving a Driver?
Be in position at the time and location required by roster
Inspect TMM and Cab Notices
General points on operating trains (5)
Regulate speed of train to keep to schedule- don’t speed
Only look at departure times when safe to do so and don’t let it distract you from safety critical tasks
Look out for all fixed, hand, detonating and flag signals.
Observe your train following safely behind when safe to do so
If you come to a stand at a platform you are not scheduled to stop at before moving off check that no one is attempting to board or alight and signal is a proceed aspect.
How do you operate train during Poor Visibility?
Approach signals cautiously - assume they will be at stop.
If you observe a train stopped on the opposite line train whistle must be sounded.
What unauthorised stops (stops not at a station) can you make
None… except for track maintenance inspectors who are allowed.

If there is a delay due to signal not at proceed when it is scheduled time to leave what do you do?
If signal not at proceed 15 seconds prior to right departure time:
Ensure Reverser is placed into
- Neutral (Siemens, XTrap)
- Off (Comeng)
Make immediate enquiries as to the reason for the delay.
What do you need to be aware of when running empty cars (5)?
Restrictive signal aspects
Peds and vehicles unaware of unscheduled service
Potential for a SPAD
Potential for loss of concentration
Max speed of 40kmph once caught up.
When will station staff make sure train is clear of passengers (3)?
At FSS
Locations were the train will be departing in the same direction
The driver of the arriving train is ROE
When does the driver make sure the train is clear of passengers (3)?
Changing ends and shunt in the opposite direction
Stabling at a platform
Train related fault (no staff available)
What is the process when Station Staff clear passengers (6)?

Auto Announce
Alright Hand Signal
Close Doors
Check Signals
What is the process when Driver clears passengers (4)?
PA

What do you do when at a Signal at Danger?
Brakes are applied
Turn Marker Lights to White (norm. auto.)
