Monocot

Dicot

- veins are pinnate or palmate
- flowers in 4 or 5 parts
- presence of wood
- root system: taproot

What is xylem and phloem?
A
xylem: vascular tissue that transports water and minerals from roots to leaves
phloem: vascular tissue that transports nutrients from source to growth areas or to roots for storage

What is the cuticle of leaves?
A
- a waxy layer on the epidermis that is secreted by epidermal cells
- helps reduce water loss from leaves by reducing evaporation
