Plants Flashcards
1
Q
List the structures in a plant.
A
Leaves:
- Chloroplasts
- Stomata
- Vascular tissue containing xylem vessels
- Phloem tissue
- Cuticle
Stems:
- Xylem vessels
- Phloem
Roots:
- Root hairs
2
Q
What do the stomata do?
A
Provide access of carbon dioxide from the air (located in the lower leaf surface).
3
Q
What does the cuticle do?
A
Prevents water loss (covers most of the leaf).
4
Q
What do xylem vessels do?
A
Transport water and minerals from roots to all aerial parts of a plant (thick-walled so they give rigidity to the stem).
5
Q
What do phloem do?
A
Transport the products of photosynthesis from photosynthetic cells to all other cells throughout a plant.
6
Q
What do root hairs do?
A
Create a large surface area for the absorption of water and dissolved minerals.
