Definition of a tissue?
A
A cell or group of cells that perform a common function.

What is a simple permanent tissue?
A
- Contains only 1 type of cell
- All the cells here are similar and have the same structure
- 3 main types - parenchyma, collenchyma, sclerenchyma.

What is a complex permanent tissue?
A
- Contains more than 1 type of cell.
- They work together to perform the same specific functions in that plant body.
- 2 main types - xylem, phloem.

What is Meristematic tissue?
A
It’s cells remain forever young and are actively dividing throughout the life of that plant. The meristematic cells are generally small and cuboidal in shape with large nuclei, small vacuoles and thin walls.

What is Apical meristem?
A
- The tissue in the apex of the stem and roots which is responsible for the primary growth.
- Increases the length of the plant
- Allows the plant to develop features like flowers and leaves.

What is Lateral meristem?
A
- The tissue in the sides of stems and roots which is responsible for the secondary growth of the plant.
- Increases the diameter of the plant.
- Allows plant to grow tall and stronger.
