Plant Structute and Function Flashcards
Hierarchy
Organelle, Cell, Tissue, Organ, Organ system
What is the plant structure and function?
(two parts, transport and bringing in)
- the root system brings water and nutrients in from the soil
- the shoot system transports water and nutrients to leave and flowers
What is cohesion?
-Water sticks to itself
What is adhesion?
-Water sticks to xylem wall
What is the xylem?
- The xylem is one of the two types of transport tissue in a plant
What does the xylem do?
-transports water and nutrients from roots to stem and leaves
Plant organs
-Roots
-Organs
-Systems
What is the Ploem?
- The Phloem is one of the two types of transport tissue in plants
What is the role of the phloem?
- transports material around the plant like sugars and nutrients that are made from photosynthesis
What is transpiration?
- evaporation of water from leaves through the stoma
(Xylem)
What is translocation?
- transport of sugars made by photosynthesis from leaves to sink (fruit)
Which transportation tissue found in plants is living?
- Phloem
Which transportation tissue found in plants is dead?
- Xylem
What is the stoma?
-is an opening in the plant cell
What is the role of the stroma?
-opens to let CO2 out
-allows H2O to evaporate
