Plant reproduction Flashcards
How many types of pollination are there
2
What are the 2 types of pollination
Wind and Insect Pollinated
Features of Wind Pollinated plants
Dull, no scent, no nectar, feathery pollen to fly away in the wind, exposed stigma to catch pollen, more pollen than insect-pollinated flowers, less dense pollen
Features of Insect Pollinated plants
Bright colour petals, sweet scent and nectar to attract insects, sticky pollen to stick to insects, enclosed stigma, less denser pollen than wind dispersed flowers
Why do plants disperse seeds?
So that they can grow away from each other so each plant has enough root space and nutrients without competition.
What is the Carpal
Female parts of the flower
What is the Pistol
Male parts of a flower
What does the carpal consist of
The ovary, stigma and style
What does the anther do
Produces the male gamete (pollen)
What does the pistol consist of
The anther and the filament
What is the stigma
The part of the flower that pollen lands on during pollination
What does the style do
Connects the ovary to the stigma
How many types of seed dispersal are there
4
What are all the types of seed dispersal
Wind, animal, explosion and rolling
Why does a fruit grow around the seed
So an animal can eat it and excrete it out somewhere else
