Light Flashcards
Why can light not travel round corners
Because it travels in straight lines
What is a luminous object
Something that gives of light
What is the law of reflection?
The angle of reflection must be equal to the angle of incidence
Transparent
All light travels through and none is absorbed
Translucent
Some light travels through and some is absorbed
Opaque
No light travels through and none is absorbed
What is specular reflection
When light reflects off a smooth surface so the light rays are reflected regularly and you can see a reflection in the surface
What is diffuse reflection
When light reflects off a rough surface so the light rays are scattered and you can’t see a clear reflection
How many types of mirrors are there
3
What are the 3 types of mirrors
Plane Mirrors, Concave Mirrors, Convex Mirrors
What are Plane Mirrors
Plane mirrors are mirrors that reflect light regularly so that it produces a clear image that is the same size and the same way up as the object. It is also the same distance away from the mirror as the object is
What are Concave Mirrors
Mirrors that form the image upside down. If the object is far away the image is smaller and if the object is closer the image is larger
Convex
In a convex mirror the image is formed behind the mirror. It is smaller than the object but the right way up
Uses of Concave Mirrors
Torches, Dentist Mirrors, Solar Furnaces
Uses of Convex Mirrors
Rear View Mirrors, Wing Mirrors, Security Mirrors
