Plant Organ Systems and Their Functions Flashcards
Flowering plants reproduce sexually
through a process called
pollination
Happens when a plant’s own pollen fertilizes its own
ovules.
Self-pollination
Happens when the wind or animals move pollen from
one plant to another.
Cross-pollination
Male gametes from the pollen join with the female gametes in the egg. The egg or eggs, are found inside the stigma.
Fertilization
It only requires DNA from one parent. It creates offspring that are genetically identical to the parent.
Asexual Reproduction
This involves new plants growing from small parts of a parent plant that fall to the ground.
Fragmentation
What are the five main stages to the plant life cycle
- Seed
- Germination and Seedling
- Becoming mature
- Growing flowers and
seeds and undergoing
pollination - Dispersion of seeds
Controls transpiration and gas exchange with the air
Stomata
Also have openings for gaseous exchange
Lenticels
It distributes the water and dissolved minerals upward through the plant.
Xylem
It carries food downward from the leaves to the roots.
Phloem
It regulates their growth, development, reproductive
processes, longevity, and even death.
Phytohormones
Does plants have a nervous system?
NO!
Genetically identical offspring are called what?
Clones
Vegetative propagation does not need seeds or spores. True or False?
True
