Plant Organ System B2 Flashcards
Photosynthesis word and symbol equation
Carbon dioxide + water -> glucose +oxygen
6CO2 + 6H2O → C6H12O6 + 6O2
How is a leaf adapted to photosynthesise?
Lots of chloroplast. Stomata to allow gas exchange. Spaces between cells to allow,movement of gas
Aerobic respiration word and symbol equation
C6 H12 O6 + 6O2 → 6CO2 + 6H2O
glucose + oxygen → carbon dioxide + water
Xylem properties and function
Made up of dead cells Thick cellulose wall, strengthened with a lignin wall. Made up of fibres. Function: transfer water and minerals up the plant. hollow tube.
Phloem properties and function
Made up of living cells. Permeable cell walls. Thin cell wall. Carries food and nutrients round the plant . Cell wall made of cellulose.
What is transpiration?
the evaporation and movement of water away from the plant’s leaves from the inside of the plant
How does water get into a plant?
1, absorbed from soil through root hairs via osmosis
2. Transported up the stem in the xylem to leaves (transpiration)
