Plant Kingdom Flashcards
Explain the plant life cycle for the alternation of generations
Sporophyte (2n/diploid generation) undergoes meiosis to make spores (n). Germination takes place to make a gametophyte (n/haploid generation). The gametophyte undergoes mitosis to make a sperm and ova which fertilise each other to make another sporophyte (2n/diploid generation)
What is the dominant generation for mosses?
Gametophyte generation (haploid)
Do mosses have a vascular system?
No
What do mosses need to reproduce and what do they produce?
Need water to reproduce and produce sperm
What is the dominant generation in ferns?
Sporophyte generation (diploid)
Do ferns have true leaves?
Yes
Are ferns homosporous or heterosporous?
Homosporous
