Plant Hormones Flashcards
What does auxin do in the roots and shoots?
It the roots it inhibits growth, in the shoots it promotes it.
How does phototropism work?
More auxin accumulates in the shaded region, causing the shaded region to elongate more quickly, causing the shoot to bend towards the light.
Explain gravitropism in a side wards shoot.
> there is always more auxin in the lower side of the shoot, causing the lower side to grow more quickly
> the shoot bends upwards
Explain gravitropism in a side wards root.
> gravity always causes an accumulation of auxin in the lower side of the root.
> this inhibits the growth of the lower side, causing the root to bend downwards.
How do roots grow towards moisture?
Auxin accumulates in the side with more moisture, inhibiting the growth in this side and causing the root to bend towards the moisture.
Where is auxin produced?
> in the tips of the roots and shoots.
