What are the differences between nerves and hormones?
> nerves have a very fast action, hormones are slower

What is a hormone?
A chemical messenger that travels in the blood to activate target cells.
What does FSH stand for?
Follicle Stimulating Hormone
Where is oestrogen produced?
The ovaries
What are the jobs of FSH?
It causes an egg to mature in the ovary
> stimulates the production of oestrogen
What are the jobs of oestrogen?
> causes the lining of the womb to thicken
> stimulates the production of LH
inhibits the production of FSH
What is the job of LH?
> causes an egg to be released from an ovary.
Describe the menstrual cycle.
> day 1-5: lining of uterus breaks down and is bled out along with old egg.
> day 5-14: new egg matures and thick spongy lining is formed
> day 14: new egg is released
> day 14-28: lining is maintained
> day 28: cycle repeats
