Evolution Flashcards
Why were Darwin’s theories rejected at first? (3)
> creationism
> lack of evidence
> no knowledge of inheritance and variation
Describe natural selection.
> naturally variation occurs because of sexual reproduction
> some of these variations give an advantage
> those who possess the beneficial gene will live longer, reproducing and passing on their beneficial gene.
How can mutation cause evolution?
> if the mutation of the gene creates a beneficial characteristic, it will allow the organism to live longer, reproducing and passing on the mutated gene.
Summarise evolution.
> over 3 million years ago life began as simple organisms from which the more complex organisms evolved.
What were Lamark’s theories?
> individuals in a species can change their features over a lifetime
> the acquired features would be passed on to the next generation.
