Plant cells, tissues, and organs Flashcards

1
Q

Cell specilization?

A

when a generic ell produced by mitosis is developed into a cell with specific functions
(the RNA is half of DNA and when in a robosome it created different proteins that will determine the type of cell it becomes)

Q

3 types of tissues in plants and thier functions

A
  1. Derman Tissue:
    surrounds the plant organs
    barrier betwwen plant and enviornment
  2. Ground tissue:
    preforms photosntheis
provides support for the plants body
  3. Vascular tissue
    xylem and phloem
transports water, nutrients, and sugar throughout the plant

Q

Meristem in plants (3 places)

A

at the top (terminal bud)
in the roots
on the sides (lateral bud)

Q

auxin

A

growth hormone in the buds
if u remove the terminal bud teh lateral bud activates and the plant grows wider instead of taller

Q

Leafs job

A

have a large surface area where photosynthesis can occur because of the chloroplast
granum: inside the chloroplast

Q

Parts of the leaf

A

Cutical: waxy surface that makes leaf waterproof

spongy cells: contains gas to help with photosynthesis
palisade cells: preforms most of photosynthesis
–> (both of which are apart of the mesophyl)

Xylem, Phloem (vascular tissue)

Upper & Lower Epidermis : single layer that covers leaf

Gaurd cell & stomata - allow gasses to move in and out of the leaf
- when the stomata opens carbon dioxide goes inside and oxygen and water goes out

A

transport nutrients, water, waste to places in the plant
provides physical support fot xylem and phloem

Q

Roots functions

A

anchor of the plant to the ground
takes water and nutrients from soil
stores gluecose and starch for the next season
