Cells Flashcards
2 types of cells
animal & plant cells
What is a cell?
smallest unit that can preform the functions of life
What is an Organelle
structure inside a cell
nucleus?
the brain of the cell that controls all the activity
- the only visible organelle in a cell through a microscope
micrograph?
picture taken with a microscope
What is the cell theory?
- all living organisms are made of one or more cells
- cells are basic unit of life
- all cells come from pre-existing cells
difference between animal and plant cells
plant cells:
- cell walls
- chloroplast
- one central vacule
Animal Cells
- Centriole
- many vacules
Formula of photosynthesis?
6CO2 + 6H20 + Energy = Glucose (C6H12O6) + 6O2
uses carbon dioxide, energy from sun, and water to create food and oxygen
formula for cellular respiration
C6H12O6 + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H20 + energy
uses food and oxygen to produce energy, and carbon dioxide
photosynthesis vs cellular respiration in plant and animal cell energy.
- Animal cells can only do cellular respiration
- Plant cells can do both
- photosyntheis in morning and daylight and cellular respiration when changing food into energy.
chloroplast?
in plant cells and helps do photosynthesis
source of energy for plant life
Cell wall
wall around the plant cell
surrounds cell membrane
creates the shape and structure of cell
regulates material inflow and outflow
cell membrane
surrounds cells and controlls what comes in and out of the cell
Ribosomes
changes amino acids(RNA) into protein
Endoplasmic reticulum
rough - makes protien
smooth - makes lipids
