Plant Cells & Functions Flashcards
What is the function of the cell wall?
Gives shape and support to the cell
What is the function of the vacuole?
It stores water and mineral salts in the cell sap
What is the function of chloroplast?
It contains a green pigment called chlorophyll which is needed to carry out photosynthesis
Root hair cells
Shape of the cell is extended to increase the surface area in contact with the soil to allow more water and minerals to be taken in
Leaf cells
Contain chloroplast which traps sunlight and allows photosynthesis to work
Water carrying cells (xylem)
They sit on top of each other to carry water in plants and the cells run in tubes from the roots and into the veins of the leaf. This forms a very effective transport system
