Plant Cell Organisation Flashcards
What are plants made of and what do they form
Organs (made of tissues) and form to make organ systems which can perform tasks to survive and grow eg: transporting substances
What are the 5 plant tissues and their job
- Epidermal tissue- covers the whole plant
- Palisade mesophyll tissue- part of leaf where most photosynthesis takes place
- Spongy mesophyll tissue- part of the lead and contains big air spaces to allow gases to diffuse in and out
- Xylem and Phloem- transport things like water, mineral ions and food around the plant
- Meristem tissue- this is found at the growing tips of shoots and roots and is able to differentiate into lots of different types of plant cell
What is the leaf and what 6 types of tissue does it have
Is a plant organ.
- Epidermal: upper and lower
- The palisade layer
- Spongy mesophyll
- Xylem and phloem
- Stomata
- Guard cells
What is the job of epidermal tissue
covered with a waxy cuticle, which helps reduce water loss by evaporation
Upper- transparent so that light can pass through it to the palisade layer
Lower- full of stomata
What is the job of palisade layer
Has lots of chloroplasts, where photosynthesis takes place, near the top of the leaf where they can get the most light
What is the job of xylem and phloem cells
Form a network of vascular bundles, which deliver water and tiger nutrients to the lead and take away the glucose produced by photosynthesis, also help support the structure
What is the job of stomata and what is it controlled by
efficient for gas exchange, which lets carbon dioxide diffuse directly into the leaf. Guard cells close the stomata in repossessed to environment conditions
