Plant Cell Flashcards
chloroplast
plant cells only, converts light energy into food energy during process of photosynthesis
cell wall
plant cells only, rigid protective layer made of cellulose, maintains cell shape
central vacuole
plant cells only, storage sac, can hold variety of substances (nutrients, water, etc)
plasma membrane
outer boundary of the cell, regulates things going in and out of a cell
mitochondria
site where energy is harvested from food molecules
nuclear envelope
double membrane that surrounds the nucleus, phospholipid bilayer that controls what goes in and out of the nucleus, contains nuclear pores that only allows certain molecules (rRNA) to go in
nucleus
contains most of cell’s DNA stored in chromosomes, control cells activities by directing protein production
ribosomes
sites of protein manufacture, can free float or be attached to RER
cytoskeleton
network of fibers, maintain cell shape, provides support and helps with movement
golgi apparatus
receives, refines, and ships cellular products
vesicle
membrane enclosed sac, stores and transports materials through the cell
endoplasmic reticulum
network of membrane enclosed passage-ways and sacs, touches the outside of the nuclear envelope
cytoplasm
fluid filled region between nucleus and plasma
