Plant Biology Flashcards
Bryophytes
Bryophytes is the informal group name for mosses, liverworts and hornworts. They are non-vascular plants, which means they have no roots or vascular tissue, but instead absorb water and nutrients from the air through their surface (e.g., their leaves).
Vascular plants
The vascular plant contains xylem and phloem known as vascular tissues, for instance, conifers, flowering plants, and ferns.
The vascular plants include all the seed-containing plants, angiosperms (flowering plants), gymnosperms, and the pteridophytes (lycophytes, horsetails, and ferns).
C4 photosynthesis
In C4 photosynthesis, where a four-carbon compound is produced, unique leaf anatomy allows carbon dioxide to concentrate in ‘bundle sheath’ cells around Rubisco. … PEP fixes carbon dioxide into a four-carbon molecule, called malate, that is transported to the deeper bundle sheath cells that contain Rubisco.
ex: maize, sugarcane, and sorghum
