What are planes?
Imaginary flat surfaces that pass through the body
What is a sagittal plane?
a vertical plane that divides the body or organ into right and left sides
What is a midsagittal plane / median plane?
A sagittal plane (vertical) that divides the body or organ into equal right and left sides
What is the midline?
Vertical line that divides the body into equal left and right
What is a parasagittal plane?
a sagittal plane (vertical) that does not pass through the midline, and creates unequal sides
What is a frontal or a coronal plane?
Divides the body or an organ into front and back portions.
What is a transverse plane?
Divides the body or an organ into upper and lower portions.
What is an oblique plane?
A plane that passes through the body or organ at an oblique angle
What is a section?
A cut of the body or one of its organs using one of the planes already mentioned
