Planes & Axis Flashcards
What are the 3 planes?
Sagittal.
Frontal.
Transverse.
What movement occurs in the sagittal plane?
Flexion & Extension.
Dorsi & Plantar flexion.
Forward & Backward bending.
What movement occurs in the frontal plane?
Abduction & Adduction.
Lateral Flexion.
Ulnar & Radial deviation.
Eversion & Inversion.
What movement occurs in the Transverse Plane?
Medial & Lateral rotation.
Axial rotation.
What are the 3 different types of Axis?
Frontal.
Sagittal.
Longitudinal.
Define the Frontal Axis?
The frontal (medial-lateral) axis passes horizontal from side to side.
Define the Sagittal Axis?
The sagittal (antero-posterior) axis passes horizontal from front to rear.
Define Longitudinal Axis?
The longitudinal (vertical) axis runs perpendicular to the ground from head to feet.
When performing a front squat what plane and axis are you working in?
Sagittal Plane-Frontal Axis.
When performing a side lunge what plane and axis are you working in?
Frontal Plane-Sagittal Axis.
When performing hip rotation what plane and axis are you working in?
Transverse Plane-Longitudinal Axis.
