Outer canthus
- the point where the upper
and lower eyelids meet laterally.
Inner canthus
is where the eyelids meet near
the nose
Infra-orbital margin/point
the inferior rim of the orbit,
Nasion
the articulation between the nasal and frontal
bones
Grabella
A bony prominence found on the frontal bone immediately superior to the nasion.
External occipital protuberance (inion)
- Abony prominence found on the occipital bone, usually coincident with the median sagittal plane.
External auditory meatus
- The opening within the ear that
leads into the external auditory canal.
The superciliary ridge (arch)
is an arch of bone that extends across the forehead directly above each eye.
supraorbital groove (SOG)
- A depression above the superciliary arch
Why is the SOG important
It corresponds to the highest level of the facial bone mass, which is also the level of the floor of the anterior fossa of the cranial vault.
The acanthion
- is the midline point at
the junction of the upper lip and the nasal septum
Gonion
refers to the lower
posterior angle on each side of the jaw or mandible.
Tragus
the small cartilaginous flap that covers the
opening of the ear
