  • new technology, means that less manual labour is needed, also manufacture outside of the city is much more economically viable.
  • counter urbanisation
  • globalisation, e.g. online shopping, causing a decline in the high street shops.
  • deindustrialisation of big industry, such as the car industry in Detroit.

it will increase that attraction of investment, thus allowing, for more money to be invested into an area (multiplier effect)(positive feedback loop)

A
  • governments, have the power to pick and choose how to attract FDI, by offering land at cheaper prices etc,.
  • top down placemaking
  • can transform a place on an enormous scale

  • places, like the Sydney harbour side are characterised by a single building, due to striking architecture.
  • it has a large part to play, in how people view and perceive a given place.

  • small scale, less power to make change
  • tends to be bottom up place making (small scale)
  • they don’t have the power to start or stop change like the government say.
