why have some urban areas decline in the last 50 years
A
- new technology, means that less manual labour is needed, also manufacture outside of the city is much more economically viable.
- counter urbanisation
- globalisation, e.g. online shopping, causing a decline in the high street shops.
- deindustrialisation of big industry, such as the car industry in Detroit.

why is placemaking needed, in order to attract FDI
A
it will increase that attraction of investment, thus allowing, for more money to be invested into an area (multiplier effect)(positive feedback loop)

how significant are government’s in placemaking
A
- governments, have the power to pick and choose how to attract FDI, by offering land at cheaper prices etc,.
- top down placemaking
- can transform a place on an enormous scale

how significant are planers and architects in placemaking
A
- places, like the Sydney harbour side are characterised by a single building, due to striking architecture.
- it has a large part to play, in how people view and perceive a given place.

how significant, are community groups, in placemaking
A
- small scale, less power to make change
- tends to be bottom up place making (small scale)
- they don’t have the power to start or stop change like the government say.
