A

Locales are locations in a place that are associated with everyday activities. E.g school

A

Is the subjective emotional attachment to a place, which gives it meaning.

A

Suggests that a place isn’t unique.

However, it is argued that place is about people and different people will interact in different locales, which makes places unique.

A
  • Your attachment to a place grows stronger overtime, more experiences in the place the more likely you are to be attached to it.

Greater intensity + number of experiences you have in a place the greater depth of attachment.

A
  • Is the dislike of a place.

It is possible to have Topophobia and still have an attachment with a place but the attachment will be negative.

What are Near places ?

A
  • Places which are close to us
  • Near places are subjective

E.g someone who is able to fly 100km in a very short time to a place may class that place as a near place, whereas if someone in the UK has to drive 100km to a place they will class that as a far place.

E.g people feeling homesick when they are 10 mins from home but to they it may feel like a far place

A persons sense of a media place can be very different to the lived experience of the same place this is because the media may present a place in a certain way for a particular purpose.
