Q

Flows of money, people, resources and ideas have affected the social characteristics of a place:

A

Flows of people: regional migration from rural to urban areas in poorer countries has changed social characteristics and levels of social inequality. e.g in India this mass migration has led to slums, with awful quality of life.

Flows of resources: Exports of natural resources from LIC’s can change levels of social inequality.
e.g exports of oil from Nigeria main profits go to a couple of people, economic leakage, making the rich richer from the poor.

Flows of money and investment: gentrification has improved social characteristics in some places but can exacerbate inequalities.
e.g Deprived areas can become less deprived and increase the living standards, but this will increase house prices and drive out the locals putting them in poor living conditions.
