PITTA Dosha
PITTA= BILE
The Pitta dosha controls digestion, metabolism, and energy production. Those with a predominance of the Pitta principle have a fiery nature that manifests in both body and mind. The primary function of Pitta is transformation.
Represents metabolism. It governs digestion and metabolic transformation of nutrients into biologically usable forms. It also imparts the capacity to absorb ideas and impressions and bestows intelligence and an enthusiasm for life.
Elements: Fire + Water
Function: Transformation (metabolism, digestion)
Psychology: Action ?
Chief location: small intestine
(Small intestines, liver, gallbladder lower part of the stomach, spleen and pancreas)
Qualities of Pitta: Hot, light, intense, penetrating, pungent, sharp, acidic. (Hot, Sharp, Penetrating, Light, Liquid, Sour, Oily and Fleshy).
Taste: Sour
Digestion Cycle: Digestion
Food balancing: pungent + bitter
Main imbalances:
Personality: Pittas have a powerful intellect and a strong ability to concentrate.
Physicality: Pittas are usually of medium size and weight. They sometimes have bright red hair, but baldness or thinning hair is also common in a Pitta.
Agni=high
Dhatu= deficiency (except in Rakta)
PTTTA Emotional
Pittas have a powerful intellect and a strong ability to concentrate. When they’re in balance, they are good decision makers, teachers, and speakers. They are precise, sharp-witted, direct, and often outspoken.
Out-of-balance Pittas can be short-tempered and argumentative.
When Pittas are overstressed, their typical response is “What did you do wrong?”
PITTA Physical
Pittas are usually of medium size and weight. They sometimes have bright red hair, but baldness or thinning hair is also common in a Pitta. They have excellent digestion, which sometimes leads them to believe they can eat anything. They have a warm body temperature They sleep soundly for short periods of time and have a strong sex drive. When in balance, Pittas have a lustrous complexion, perfect digestion, abundant energy, and a strong appetite. When out of balance, Pittas may suffer from skin rashes, burning sensations, peptic ulcers, excessive body heat, heartburn, and indigestion.
PITTA Subdoshas
Each subdosha metabolizes something different.
SADHAKA PITTA:
Governs emotions such as contentment, memory, intelligence and digestion of thoughts and emotions. Located in the heart (brain mind+ heart)
ALOCHAKA PITTA:
Governs visual perception. Located in the eyes. (pupils) visual stimuli/impressions
BHRAJAKA PITTA:
Governs lustre and complexion, temperature and pigmentation of the skin. Located in the skin; (skin) touch
RANJAKA PITTA:
Governs formation of red blood cells. Gives colour to blood and stools. Located in the liver, gallbladder and spleen; (liver) bile, nutrients
PACHAKA PITTA:
Governs digestion of food which is broken down into nutrients and waste. Located in the lower stomach and small intestine; (lower stomach, small intestine) second stage of digestion
SADHAKA PITTA
Governs emotions such as contentment, memory, intelligence and digestion of thoughts and emotions.
Psychology: discrimination
Location: heart; (brain mind+ heart)
Sense: feelings
Function: sensorial metabolizer, thoughts, emotions
Imbalances: Nerve inflammation, headaches. Poor retention of information due to mental fatigue. Heart disease.
Treatment: five-sense therapy, mental rest and jnana yoga.
ALOCHAKA PITTA
Governs visual perception.
Psych. see the truth
Location: (pupils)
Sense: vision
Function: visual impressions
Imbalances: distorted vision, blood-shot eyes
Treatment: Self-honesty, five-sense therapy
BHRAJAKA PITTA
Governs lustre and complexion, temperature and pigmentation of the skin.
Location: (skin)
Sense: touch
Function: metabolizes sunlight (vitamine D) and oil
Imbalances: Inflammatory skin disease, skin cancer
Treatment: five-sense therapy; Avoid extreme heat.
RANJAKA PITTA
Governs formation of red blood cells. Gives colour to blood and stools. Located in the liver, gallbladder and spleen.
Location: (liver) bile, nutrients
Sense: anger
Function: Digestion of toxins, formation of blood
Imbalances: liver, gall bladder, spleen and blood diseases (diabetes), diseases of excess heat.
Treatment: five-sense therapy;
PACHAKA PITTA
first sign of dosha imbalance
Governs digestion of food which is broken down into nutrients and waste.
Location: lower stomach, small intestine
Sense: Taste
Function: second stage of digestion
Imbalances: Hyperacidity, diarrhea, fever
Treatment: Diet and herbs are most important
PITTA Fluctuation

Preservation; puberty to 60yo
Goal: Artha=Dharma
TIME OF DAY:
Mornings (10-2pm) achieving goals
Stage I sleep (10-2am) liver time (liver detox); Pitta insomnia: personal problem solving.
