Abnormal bleeding Mucopurulent discharge Abdominal pain Dyspareunia Fevers \+/-N/V Sepsis

A
Bilateral abdominal tenderness
Cervical motion tenderness
Adnexal tenderness

What are the Ix for PID?
A
Endocervical swab
High vaginal swab (to look for non-sexually acquired PID)
PAP if due
Inflammatory markers
MSU
STI screening: chlamydia, gonorrhoea, Hep B, C, HIV, Syphilis
bHCG to exclude ectopic pregnancy
U/S to look for abscesses or pelvic collections
Laparoscopy

What is the management for PID?
A
Empirical ABx: azithromycin, doxycycline, cephtriaxone, metronidazole

What are the complications of PID?
A
Subfertility - tubal damage, adhesions
Chronic pain
Increased risk of ectopic pregnancy
Sepsis
