Physiology lecture 4 Flashcards
Pituary gland superior lobe
(neurohypophysis) hormone storage of neural hormonea originated from hypothalamus, oxytocin and ADH
Pituary gland anterior lobe
produces hormones such as growth hormone and TSH, secretion regulated by hypothalamus
TSH
produced in anterior lobe of pituary gland, metabolic hormone, iodine from food needed to work proprly
Parathyroid gland
Produces parathyroid hormone (PTH) which regulates calcium
Glucagon
stimulates glycogenesis (opslaan glucose)
insuline
transports glucose to cells (with diabetes body does not react to it anymore so too much glucose in the blood)
Layers in artery and veins
tunica intima= inner layer, endothelium
tunica media= muscle layer consisting of smooth muscle, thick in artery, thin in vein
tunica externa= outer layer, connective tissue
functions of arteries
pressure reservoir
distribution
resistance
continuous capillary
endothelium covering the whole membrane, no holes
fenestrated capillary
small holes in endothelium to allow passage of small molecules
sinusoid capillaries
large holes in endothelium, passaging of large blood components
systolic blood pressure
highest bloos pressure
diastolic blood pressure
lowest bloos pressure
beta blockers
blocks stress hormone in muscles
calcium chanel blockers
block calcium –> feal weaker
