Physiology Flashcards
what systems are most effected by anaesthesia?
central nervous system
cardiovascular system
respiratory system
what systems are involved in metabolising the anaesthetic agents
renal system
hepatic system
what parts of the brain control respiratory
pons
medulla oblongata
what is the hering-bereuer reflex for?
it prevents the lungs from over inflating
what are chemoreceptors for?
they monitor BP and the levels of CO2 in the blood. they send signals to the brain the stimulate of depress respiratory depending on the CO2 levels in the blood.
what is tidal volume?
the amount of gas that is passed in or out of the lungs in a normal breath
what is minute volume?
the volume of air inhaled and exhaled in a minute
what is dead space?
the gas that is passed down the respiratory tract that doesn’t participate in gas exchange
what does the cardiovascular system regulate?
cardiac output
blood pressure
systemic vascular resistance
this is to ensure optimal tissue perfusion
