Q

What is the amplitude?

A

Is the wave height from the rest position of the wave (where there is no wave) to the crest or the wave depth from the rest to trough.

Q

What is Fluorescent Light?

A

A bulb is filled with mercury vapour, inside is coated with phosphor power , current passes through, mercury gets excited, strikes phosphor and emits UV light.

Q

What is Phosphorescent Light?

A

Stores up energy of light and emits slowly overtime.

Q

What is Chemiluminescence?

A

Light produced from a chemical reaction without rise in temp.

Bioluminescence is a kind of this (from plants or animals like jelly fish, etc)

ex. glow sticks

17
Q

What is plasma?

A

Word to remember fluorescents

18
Q

Real and virtual images?

A

Virtual images form when light rays from the same location on an object reflect off a mirror and diverge or spread apart. Real images form when light rays from the same location on an object reflect off a mirror and converge or come together.

19
Q

What is the normal?

A

An imaginary line perpendicular to the mirror.

20
Q

What is Focal Point?

A

Where all rays will eventually meet.

21
Q

What is the Vertex?

A

The middle point of a curved mirror.

22
Q

What is the Principal Axis?

A

An imaginary line drawn through the vertex, perpendicular to the mirror

23
Q

What is the Focal Length?

A

Distance from vertex to focal point.

24
Q

What is the Centre of Curvature?

A

Where all the normals meet.

25
Q

Concave mirrors

A
  • backwards C
  • converging mirror, all the rays meet at focal point
26
Q

Convex mirrors

A
  • C
  • diverging mirror, doesn’t collect rays, they spread apart
27
Q

Regular Reflection

A

It is a straight line (mirror) and the rays hit the straight line and reflect into your eyes.

28
Q

Difuse Reflection

A

It is a wavy line (water) and the rays hit it and bounce off in different directions causing no image.

29
Q

Examples of Concave and Convex mirrors.

A

Concave:
- Headlights
- Makeup mirror

Convex:
- Security mirror
- Side-view mirror.

30
Q

What is the Umbra?

A

Light source is blocked.

31
Q

What is the Penumbra?

A

Partical shadow from non-point light.
