Physics Test 1 Flashcards
What is the wavelength?
It is the distance from one place in a wave to the next similar place in a wave.
What is the amplitude?
Is the wave height from the rest position of the wave (where there is no wave) to the crest or the wave depth from the rest to trough.
What is the frequency?
It is the rate of repetition of a wave measured in Hz (cycles per second
).
What is crest and trough?
Crest is the highest point in the wave, trough is the lowest.
Transverse Waves?
water waves
Longitudinal waves?
sound waves
Order of ER spectrum? from lowest frequency
Radio, Microwave, Infared, Visible, Ultra violet, X-ray, gamma
What is Incandescent Light?
Light produced from very high temp, wire FILAMENT and heats up when current flows and produces light.
What is Fluorescent Light?
A bulb is filled with mercury vapour, inside is coated with phosphor power , current passes through, mercury gets excited, strikes phosphor and emits UV light.
What is Phosphorescent Light?
Stores up energy of light and emits slowly overtime.
ex. glow in the dark toys
What is Chemiluminescence?
Light produced from a chemical reaction without rise in temp.
Bioluminescence is a kind of this (from plants or animals like jelly fish, etc)
ex. glow sticks
What is Triboluminescence?
Produces light from friction
ex. some crystals
What is Electric Discharge?
Produces light when electric current passes through air or another gas
ex. lightning and neon signs
What is LED?
Light source made out of semi conductor (small amount of energy)
ex. black light on phone
What is OLED?
Word to remember: organic
