Q

Charging by induction (wall/balloon)

A

When a balloon gets rubbed against a fabric/material, it gains a negative charge due to charging by contact. The wall has a equal amount of positive and negative charges, so it is neutral. Bringing the negatively charged balloon to the wall causes the electrons in the balloon to repel the electrons in the wall from the balloon.

Q

Charging by induction (cloud/lightning)

A

Thunder clouds carry negative charges at the bottom and an equal amount of positive charges at the top. When above the ground, positive charges are induced on the ground.

Q

Series vs. Parallel (Xmas lights)

A

Series: all bulbs are connected on one wire, meaning that if one bulb were to burn out, every one would

Parallel: each bulb gets its own wire so that if one burns out, the others will stay lit and you will know which one to replace
