Chemistry - Properties Flashcards
Malleability
ability to be hammered/bent into shape (aluminum foil)
Ductility
ability to be pulled into wire form (copper wire)
Colour
Metals are silvery-grey (except for Cu and Au), while non-metals are found in all colours
State
Matter is found in all three states: Solid, Liquid, and Gas
Hardness
ability to resist scratching (diamonds are harder than glass, so they can be used to cut it)
Viscosity
Measure of a fluids resistance to flow (molasses has a higher viscosity than water)
Solubility
Ability of a substance to dissolve in a liquid
Texture
How rough or smooth something is (sandpaper is rough, silk is smooth)
Density
Measure of the relationship between mass and volume
Conductivity
Ability of a substance to conduct an electrical charge or heat
