Physics Measurements Flashcards
Derived quantities are:
Any secondary quantity derived from a combination of one or more of three basic quantities , such as mass, length and time.
Base quantities are:
Length, mass and time.
Velocity
V=d/t. Velocity equals distance over time.
Average velocity
(With a line over the “v.”) V=(initial velocity + final velocity)/2
Acceleration
a= (final velocity - initial velocity)/time
Force
F=ma. Force equals mass times acceleration.
Weight
Wt=mg. Weight equals mass times gravity. On Earth, gravity =9.8 m/s^2
Momentum
P = mv. Momentum equals mass times velocity.
Work
W = Fd. Work equals force times distance.
Power
P = Work/t = Fd/t.
Power equals work over time.
Kinetic energy
KE = 1/2(mv^2)
Kinetic energy equals half of mass times velocity squared.
Potential energy
PE = mgh.
Potential energy equals mass times gravity times height.
