Physics formula Flashcards
Gravitational potential energy
GPE = mgh which is mass(kg) times gravitational field strength (N/kg) times height (metres). GPE is measured in joules.
Kinetic energy
KE = 1/2 mv^2
Work done
W = F x d
Power
P = W/t
Newton’s laws of motion
- An object will remain stationery or continue to move in a straight line at a constant speed unless it is acted upon by an external force 2. The resultant force is the single force that can replace all the others and have the same effect on the object. (F = m x a) 3. Whenever two objects interact, the force they exert on each other is equal and opposite
Terminal velocity explained
As objects get faster and faster, air resistance gets bigger and bigger, eventually they become equal, and the object moves at a constant speed (terminal velocity)
Resistance
R = V/I Voltage/Current
Current
I = Q/t charge flow/time taken
Measurements for circuits
Resistance - ohms, current- amperes, charge flow- coulombs, voltage- volts
Voltage (or potential difference)
V = E/Q, energy over charge
Relationship between current and voltage
directly proportional
Relationship between current and resistance
inversely proportional
Moment
M = Fd
